Our Staff

imageMrs. Nancy has been the director of Asbury Preschool since the summer of 2011. Before that, she was the lead teacher in the Pre-K II classroom and, overall, has been at Asbury Preschool since 2000. She has an associate’s degree in early childhood education, as well as N.C. Lead Teacher, first aid, CPR, and SIDS certification. Mrs. Nancy is a student at UNCG working towards a bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Early Childhood. She loves spending time with her family, the beach and, when life slows down, reading a good book.

imageMrs. Megan has been the assistant director of Asbury Preschool since June 2012. She has been in the childcare field since 2001. She has her N.C. Credentials, Administration Credentials and an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as CPR/First Aid and SIDS certifications. Mrs. Megan is also a student at UNCG working towards a bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Early Childhood. She enjoys traveling with her family, reading (a lot!), and cooking.

Infant Room

imageMs. Brandy joined Asbury Preschool in December 2012 and is our co-teacher in the infant room. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Brandy brings over 8 years experience, mostly with infants; various trainings including SIDS and CPR/First Aid; and a love for caring for children. She enjoys volunteering, babysitting, and sports in her free time.

imageMs. Madisyn joined Asbury Preschool as a substitute in June 2016 and became our infant room teacher in August 2017. She graduated high school in 2016 and received her NC Early Childhood Credentials in 2017. She is certified in CPR/First Aid and has multiple trainings including SIDS. She plans to go back to school in the near future. Ms. Madisyn brings a calming and nurturing presence to our infant room.

Toddler Room

Ms. Brittany joined Asbury Preschool in August 2016 as the co-lead teacher for the toddler room. Her bio and picture are coming soon.

imageMs. Andrea joined Asbury Preschool in August 2015 as one of our floaters and in October 2015 she became the co-lead teacher of our toddler room. Ms. Andrea is currently working on her associate degree in Early Childhood Education, having already obtained her NC Credentials. Included in her many trainings is her certification in CPR and First Aid. Ms. Andrea has worked with children of every age, from infants to preschoolers. Her sweet personality makes bonding with the children effortless. She brings a creative element to the class that compliments Ms. Toya’s teaching style.

Twos Room

imageMrs. Karen is one of the co-teachers in the Two’s classroom. Mrs. Karen joined Asbury Preschool as the co-teacher in the Twos’ Room in September 2014. She has been in child care since 2005. Mrs. Karen graduated from Durham Technical Community College with a degree in Early Childhood Education, a certificate in Infant and Toddler Care, and her administration credentials. Mrs. Karen is certified in CPR and First Aid. Mrs. Karen is married with two daughters and two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her family.

Ms. Brittney joined Asbury Preschool in April 2016 and became a teacher in the Two’s class in March 2017. She is originally from Fayetteville, but moved to Durham recently. She began working in child care in 2010 and loves every minute of working with the children, from arts & crafts to reading with them. One of her favorite books is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault. Ms. Brittney has her NC Early Childhood Education credentials, certifications in CPR/First Aid and SIDS, and has various trainings that prepare her to be the best she can be. She is also working towards a degree in Early Childhood Education.

Pre K I Room

imageMs. Mequail joined Asbury Preschool in August 2015 as our Pre K IA teacher. She was born and raised in Roxboro, NC. In 2015, she earned her Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from North Carolina Central University. Mequail is familiar with the Early Childhood Education Environmental Rating Scale standards and is CPR, First Aid, and AED certified. She has worked in childcare in 2009 and has experience with all ages. Taking care of children is her passion. “Allowing children to grow, explore, and learn is a rewarding experience that keeps me excited as I continue caring for children of all ages. Learning through exploration, art, reading, nature, and outdoor observations offers children a rich experience. Nurturing each child’s interests helps them become strong, solid people who respect themselves.

Pre K II Rooms

imageMs. Brenda became the Pre K II teacher in February 2014. Since she came to Asbury Preschool in May 2011, she has been the co-teacher in the Pre-K II room for a year and a half, as well as, the toddler room for a year. She has years of experience with children who have special needs, a bachelors degree in psychology from Queens University in Charlotte, and certifications in CPR and first aid. She enjoys various arts and crafts such as beading, quilting, and knitting, as well as reading and playing video games.

imageMs. Tia came to Asbury Preschool in February 2014 as a welcome addition to our Pre K II classroom. Ms. Tia brings over 5 years experience in early childhood education, as well as her NC Credentials, CPR and first aid, and trainings in the Environmental Rating Scales. She is student at NC Central University working towards a bachelor degree. Ms. Tia loves working with children because, “every day is a new day; you always learn something new about a child.”

Support Staff

imageMrs. Cathy, our talented cook, came to Asbury Preschool in the fall of 2004 after moving to North Carolina. Before coming to Asbury Preschool, she worked as a personal chef and small event caterer for three years in South Carolina. She has also spent most of her “working years” as an administrative assistant. Mrs. Cathy and her husband have two adult children and two grandchildren whom they love more than anything.

imageMs. June has been a substitute teacher at Asbury Preschool since March 2012. Ms. June was born and raised in London, England. She came to Durham and began her early childhood education career. Ms. June has over 30 years of experience in early childhood education. She loves working with all ages. Ms. June is CPR and First Aid certified. Ms. June attended Durham Technical Community College and has her N.C. Early Childhood Credentials and her Early Childhood Administration Credentials. Ms. June brings a bright smile and enthusiastic spirit to our children and families!
