Teachers

Mrs. Nancy has been the director of Asbury Preschool since the spring of 2011.  Before that, she was the lead teacher in the Pre-K II classroom and, overall, has been at Asbury since 2000.  She has an associate’s degree in early childhood education, as well as N.C. Lead Teacher, first aid, CPR, and SIDS certification. She loves spending time with her family, the beach and, when life slows down, reading a good book.  Her favorite part of Asbury: “I am very honored and blessed to have the opportunity to work among such a caring community of families, children, and staff.  It warms my heart each morning when I see their smiles and their eagerness to go to their classrooms.”

Mrs. Kim is the assistant director of Asbury, where she has worked since 2006. She attended Campbell University and UNC School of Dentistry and has N.C. Lead Teacher, first aid, and CPR certification. She is passionate about her family – her children, Emma and Will, are her “greatest rewards.” In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, water sports and the theater.  Her favorite part of Asbury: “I enjoy all the hugs and kisses all day long.”

Mrs. Crystal has been the lead teacher in the infant room since the summer of 2011.  She has several years of experience in child care, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Brevard College, and certifications in first aid and AED.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and family and painting as a hobby.  Her favorite part of Asbury: “I love that every day I am able to see your children smiling back at me.”

Ms. Melissa is a co-teacher in the infant room and has been at Asbury since 2003. She has been in the infant room since 2008 and, before that, was a teacher in the toddler room and the toddler two’s room for two years each.  She also has years of experience working with young children in camp settings at the Museum of Life and Science, and has training in child care, SIDS, and CPR.  Born and raised in Durham, Miss Melissa studied musical theater at East Carolina University and enjoys singing, dancing, and photography. Her favorite part of Asbury (from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young): “Everyday is an opportunity to teach children what you believe in, make a world that we can live in.”

Ms. Sabrina has taught in the toddler room since 2010 and, before that, was a floater and infant room teacher at Asbury since 2004. She has certification in early childhood education, first aid, CPR, SIDS, and N.C. Lead Teacher, and has worked in her church children’s ministry for many years. A native of Durham, Miss Sabrina enjoys reading, spending time with her family, craft projects like scrapbooking, decorating T-shirts, and making Christmas ornaments, and collecting historical memorabilia, teddy bears, angels, and children’s books.  She is also active in her church. Her favorite part of Asbury: ”I most enjoy all the hugs, kisses and love. Working at Asbury is like working with a family.”

Ms. Brenda has been the co-teacher in the toddler room since early 2011.  She has years of experience with children who have special needs, a bachelors degree in psychology from Queens University in Charlotte, and certifications in CPR and first aid.  She enjoys various arts and crafts such as beading, quilting, and knitting, as well as reading and playing video games.

Mrs. Monica is the lead teacher in the Toddler Two’s classroom and has been at Asbury since 2008.  She has more than fifteen years of experience in child care, N.C. early childhood care credentials 1 and 2, and first aid and CPR certification.  She loves spending time with her family, reading, and movie night with her husband.  Her favorite part of Asbury: “All the love and hugs!”

Mrs. Felicia is the assistant teacher in the Toddler Two’s room and has been at Asbury since 2007, where she first worked as an AmeriCorps volunteer and a floater. She is currently seeking an associate’s degree in early childhood education and is state-certified in CPR, first aid, SIDS, and early childhood. Born in Charleston, S.C., Mrs. Felicia loves reading, writing, scrapbooking, traveling, and eating.  Her favorite part of Asbury: “Asbury is not just a childcare center, we’re a family.”

Mrs. Jessica is the co-lead teacher in the Pre-KI class and has taught at Asbury since 2004, where she was also a co-teacher in the Toddler Two’s and Pre-K II rooms.  She has been in the field of child care for nine years, starting with early child development and care in high school, and is currently pursuing an associate’s degree in school-age education. A native of Durham, Mrs. Jessica loves reading books, watching movies, cleaning, animals and going to museums.  Her favorite part of Asbury: “Watching children learn and grow by your guidance and leading, and the love they display back in thanks.”

Mrs. Shelia is the co-lead teacher of the Pre-K I class and has been at Asbury since 2007.  She has twenty years of child care experience, including director of another nursery. She has certification from North Carolina Central University in CPR, first aid, and child development, as well as family childcare credentials and courses from Durham Tech.  A native of Elmira, New York, Mrs. Shelia has four children, three stepsons, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite part of Asbury: “Children give me a joy that I can’t explain. I love to watch them grow and learn socially. I take full responsibility in making the children in my care feel safe, loved, and comfortable.”

Mr. Travis is the Pre-K II teacher and has been at Asbury since 2008, where he has also been a floater and Toddler Two’s teacher.  Currently enrolled in an early childhood program, he has N.C. childhood care credentials 1 and 2 and has been a teacher’s assistant at Hope Valley Elementary.  Originally from Trenton, N.C., Mr. Travis loves sports and cooking and describes himself as a “very cool and down-to-earth” person.  His favorite part of Asbury: “I learn something new every day.  My passion is working with children.”

Ms. Megan has been a full-time floater since early 2011.  She has three years of experience in child care, a bachelor’s degree in English from North Carolina Central, and certifications in CPR and first aid.  A Raleigh native, she enjoys reading, traveling, and music.  Her favorite part of Asbury: “As a teacher, the relationship between myself and a child is mutual.  I am blessed to be able to learn something new from your children daily!”

Ms. Patricia has been a substitute teacher at Asbury since 2010.  She has six years of experience in child care, especially with infants, toddlers, and two-year-olds, and certification in Childcare Development, first aid, and CPR.  Originally from Chicago, she likes to bowl, read, cook, shop, and go to the movies.  At Asbury, she enjoys giving the children social, emotional, cognitive language skills, and personal care.
