Nutrition

Asbury takes nutrition very seriously. Mrs. Cathy Prevatte, who has been in charge of the kitchen since 2003, prepares a wide variety of  well-balanced hot meals that incorporate whole-grains, fruits, and vegetables as much as possible. Much of the food, including all muffins and other baked goods, are homemade. Processed foods, such as hot dogs or chicken nuggets, are served on a limited basis. A typical week will feature at least one vegetarian meal with protein in the form of cheese or beans. Children primarily drink water and milk, with juice offered in limited quanities in an effort to limit sugars. Organic milk is available for a small additional cost. Morning snack consists of a drink and another item, ranging from cold cereal to eggs, grits, or a waffle, while the afternoon snack includes a drink and snack item.  Mrs. Cathy, always ready to innovate, also is willing to work with parents and consider their suggestions. Her two great loves are cooking and kids, and that shines through at Asbury.

Asbury Preschool participates in the Federal Food Program or CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) and adhere to the standards set forth for nutritional guidelines.
